Navarrete was presented at the Time Warner Center as the newest “Madrina” and received a commemorative sun pendant, which officially recognizes her as a supporter and a partner in the fight against AIDS.“It is important to the Miss Universe Organization, and to me personally, that we show our commitment and solidarity to those affected by HIV/AIDS,” stated Navarrete. “I am dedicated to promoting HIV testing, awareness and education in our communities, and to encourage one another to have ongoing dialogue about how to prevent the spread of HIV/AIDS across the globe.”
“The fight against HIV and AIDS and the health care needs facing our community get more challenging every year,” said Guillermo Chacón, President of the Latino Commission on AIDS. “We honor Miss Universe Ximena Navarrete and the Miss Universe Organization for taking this cause to heart, educating the public and promoting HIV testing as an important step to prevent AIDS.
